I come from the Kosi flood basins in Bihar, where we are witnessing a huge amount of damage because of climate change. We have had devastating flooding in the last few years on a scale that hasn’t been seen before. In most cases, the floods are triggered by or escalated by manmade factors. This has made the communities even more vulnerable. Every year, they have to start from scratch.

At another event, Ms. Regnér heard from young women entrepreneurs who shared their success stories as well as the challenges they face, ranging from access to finance and market, investments and persistent gender bias.

The Deputy Executive Director also travelled to Guadalcanal Provincial Headquarters, where he had robust discussions with Guadalcanal women leaders who are working to ensure women’s voices are heard and included in peacebuilding efforts. The main implication of these challenges is that the voice, agency and leadership of women in climate action do not receive full attention at the global level. Similarly, decisions adopted at the global level do not necessarily translate into actions on the ground that benefit the women and girls
